## What is the AP Chinese exam?

AP Chinese Language and Culture is the College Board’s exam for high school students at about the level of a fourth-semester college Chinese course. It has a multiple-choice section (listening and reading) and a free-response section (writing and speaking), and is scored 1 to 5; many colleges give credit for a 3 or above.

## What is on this practice test?

Twenty-four multiple-choice questions in the exam’s three kinds: eight rejoinders, where you hear an exchange and pick the reply that carries it on; eight listening selections, such as announcements, voicemails and conversations; and eight readings, such as notes, emails, ads, notices and short articles. Each run draws from 16 rejoinders, 16 listening selections and 16 readings, so each try is different.

## How is it scored?

You see the share you got right and each part’s count, then every question with the right answer and its English. The College Board turns the multiple-choice and free-response sections together into a 1 to 5 score with cutoffs it doesn’t publish, so this page doesn’t guess an AP score.

## How does listening work?

Each rejoinder plays once, as on the exam, and each listening selection plays up to twice, in your device’s Mandarin voice, a second voice for the other speaker. On the real exam the rejoinder replies are spoken too; here they are written, so you can read them as you listen. Chrome, Edge and Safari have Mandarin voices.

## Is this an official AP test?

No. Every question is our own, written in the styles of the exam’s multiple-choice section; people and places in them are invented. AP is a trademark of the College Board, which is not affiliated with this page.
