## How do you write year of the horse in Chinese calligraphy?

Year of the Horse is 马年 (mǎnián). The Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac. 马年大吉, “great luck in the Year of the Horse”, is its New Year wish.

## Which script should I choose for 马年?

Regular script (楷书) is the one every Chinese reader can read, so it suits a tattoo, a gift or a sign. Running script (行书) looks handwritten and still reads easily. Cursive (草书) is the most beautiful and the hardest to read.

## Is this real calligraphy?

These are brush fonts, made from a calligrapher’s writing, so every copy of a character looks the same. A calligrapher’s own hand changes each stroke with the brush and the ink. For something to keep, such as a tattoo, have a calligrapher write it.
