# Chinese character counter

Paste Chinese and count its characters and its words, read in context the way our reader reads them.

## What it counts

**Chinese characters** are the Han characters alone, the count most translation prices use. **Characters** counts every one, punctuation and spaces included, and **Punctuation** the marks among them. **Words** are counted as a reader reads them, so 研究生命起源 is three words, and **Different** counts each word once.

## Words in context

Chinese has no spaces, so a word ends where the sentence says it does. A splitter that takes the longest dictionary word first reads 研究生命起源 as 研究生 命 起源 (“graduate student, life, origin”) and 结婚的和尚未结婚的 with a monk (和尚) in it. This one reads the whole sentence, the same way our reader and extension do: 研究 生命 起源, “study the origin of life”, and 结婚 的 和 尚未 结婚 的.
