# 草 Grass (Farewell on the Ancient Plain)

The first four lines of 赋得古原草送别, written when Bai Juyi was sixteen: grass that wildfire cannot burn out, because the spring wind brings it back.

Speed

lí离lí离yuán原shàng上cǎo草，

Lush grass on the plain

yī一suì岁yī一kū枯róng荣。

withers and flourishes once a year.

yě野huǒ火shāo烧bù不jìn尽，

Wildfire cannot burn it all;

chūn春fēng风chuī吹yòu又shēng生。

when the spring wind blows, it grows again.
