# HSK Standard Course 6

The old HSK 6 in 5,000 words. Where it sits on today’s HSK, and free practice at that level.

## What the book covers

**Old HSK 6:** 5,000 words in all, counting the books before it.

**Two volumes, 6上 and 6下:** each with a textbook, a workbook and a teacher’s book.

**On today’s HSK:** between HSK 5 and HSK 6 (2025 syllabus: HSK 5 is 3,600 words in all, HSK 6 is 5,400 words in all).

## Questions

### Is there a free PDF of the book?

No. HSK Standard Course is a published, copyrighted series from Beijing Language and Culture University Press, so we don’t host or link copies. Recent printings carry a QR code for the audio. Everything linked on this page is free.

### Is HSK Standard Course still right for today’s HSK?

It was written for the old HSK (2.0), whose level 6 it follows. Today’s exam uses the 2025 syllabus, which asks for more words at each level (300 at HSK 1, against 150 before), so the books still teach the right Chinese but don’t cover a new level’s whole list. Practise with the 2025 lists below to fill the gap.

### Which HSK level am I after this book?

Book 6 teaches 5,000 words in all, which on today’s syllabus sits between HSK 5 and HSK 6. Take the level test to see where you stand.
