What does renminbi mean?

爸爸有一个女儿，六岁。有一天，她看到桌子上的钱，问：“爸爸，这是什么？”

爸爸说：“这是人民币。”

很多学中文的人也想问：人民币是什么？这个名字是什么意思？

人民币是中国的钱。桌子上的钱是，手机里的钱也是。

“人民”是一个国家的人。“币”是钱。“人民币”是“人民的钱”。

一九四八年，中国有了人民币。现在，大家买菜、买衣服、坐车，都用人民币。

写的时候，大家写“一百元”；说话的时候，很多人说“一百块”。“一百元”和“一百块”，是一个意思。

女儿听了，想了想，问：“是人民的钱？”

爸爸说：“对。”

“那我是人民吗？”
