# Zhuyin converter

Paste Chinese and get zhuyin (ㄅㄆㄇㄈ) above every character, read word by word. Or type pinyin to get zhuyin, and zhuyin to get pinyin.

## Pinyin by word

The word decides a character’s reading: 行 is _háng_ in 银行 and _xíng_ in 不行. Words that could go either way stay in characters, dotted; tap one to see it.

## Tones as written

Tones are shown as a dictionary writes them: 你好 is _nǐ hǎo_, though it’s said _ní hǎo_. Tap a word to see how it’s said, or see every change in a text with the [tone sandhi checker](https://mandarinthewild.com/tone-sandhi).

## Zhuyin

**Zhuyin** writes each syllable in bopomofo, the way Taiwan teaches sounds: 你好 is ㄋㄧˇ ㄏㄠˇ, and a light syllable leads with its dot, ˙ㄇㄚ. The word decides the reading, as for pinyin. With no characters, pinyin is spelled in zhuyin (_ni3 hao3_ is ㄋㄧˇ ㄏㄠˇ) and zhuyin in pinyin.

## Copying

**Copy pinyin** (or **Copy zhuyin**) copies the sounds alone. **Copy with characters** puts them over the characters, ready for a worksheet.
