How is a Chinese address written?
Biggest first: the country, the province, the city, the district, the road and its number, then the building, unit and room. 北京市朝阳区建国路88号 is Beijing city, Chaoyang district, Jianguo road, number 88. In English the order turns round: No. 88 Jianguo Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing.
How do I write an address in China from abroad?
Write it in Chinese characters if you can, as the address was given to you, and add CHINA in English on the last line so the post abroad sends it the right way. If you can only write English letters, use the pinyin, as this converter does, with the six-digit postcode.
Why are the names in pinyin, not translated?
Names in an address are names. A translator may turn 阳光花园 into “Sunshine Garden”, which no courier or map in China will find; Yangguang Garden is how the sign is read. The words that say what a part is are translated: 区 District, 路 Road, 号 No., 单元 Unit, 室 Room.
What do the address words mean?
省 shěng is a province, 市 shì a city, 区 qū a district, 县 xiàn a county, 镇 zhèn a town, 路 lù a road, 街 jiē a street, 号 hào a number, 号楼 or 栋 a building, 单元 dānyuán a unit or stairwell, 层 or 楼 a floor, and 室 shì a room. 5-2-1203 means building 5, unit 2, room 1203.
How do I say my address in Chinese?
Say it biggest first, as it is written, and say the numbers digit by digit: 1203室 is yāo èr líng sān shì. In a taxi, show the address in characters: drivers read the Chinese, not the pinyin.
