Pinyin by word
Many characters have more than one reading, and the word decides which: 行 is háng in 银行 (bank) and xíng in 不行 (no way). The converter cuts your text into words first, so each character gets the reading of the word it’s in. When a word could still be read two ways in your sentence, it stays in characters with a dotted line under it, and you can tap it to see what it means. Nothing is guessed.
Tones as written
The pinyin shows each word’s tones as a dictionary writes them, so 你好 is nǐ hǎo, even though two third tones together are said ní hǎo. Tap any word to see how it’s said in your sentence. Choose tone marks (mā) or tone numbers (ma1); the colours are the tones.
Copying
Copy pinyin copies the pinyin alone, keeping your punctuation and line breaks. Copy with characters puts each line’s pinyin over its characters, ready for a worksheet or flashcards.
