How is each video’s level found?

From its own words, not the channel’s label. Every line it says is split into words by our reader, and each word gets its level from the official HSK list (2025 syllabus). A video is Beginner when at least 80% of its words are HSK 1–3, Intermediate from 70%, and Advanced below that; speech faster than 260 characters a minute moves it up one level. Names and numbers don’t count.

What are the best YouTube channels to learn Chinese?

At the start, channels made for learners that speak slowly in Chinese only: Mandarin Click’s HSK stories, Little Fox’s folktales, jiayouchinese’s slow vlogs and Lazy Chinese. Then kids’ shows made for Chinese children, such as Peppa Pig and Big Ear Tutu, and street interviews. Once most of an intermediate video is clear, native channels: 小Lin说 explains money and the world in everyday words.

How do I watch any YouTube video with pinyin?

Add the Mandarin The Wild extension to Chrome: every Chinese video on YouTube gets its line under the player with pinyin over each word and a card for any word you point at. A video with no Chinese subtitles gets them made from its sound as you watch.
