What’s my Mandarin level?
Ten real sentences. Tap the words you don’t know, and get your HSK level in about two minutes.
Sentence 1 of 10
Tap each word you don’t know.
How it works
The test shows ten sentences from the Library’s readings, one at a time. The first is HSK 3. Know every word and the next one is a level up; tap two or more and it is a level down; tap one and it stays. Your level is the highest one whose sentences you read knowing 95% of the words, the point where reading feels easy.
What the level means
Levels follow the official HSK word list (the exam’s 2025 syllabus, in use since July 2026), which teaches about 300 words at HSK 1, 1,000 by HSK 3 and 5,400 by HSK 6. The word count is how many of those you know, worked out from the share of each level’s words you knew. A level is a guide to the words, not to grammar, listening or speaking.
Keys
← and → move between the words, Space taps one, and Enter on the button goes to the next sentence.
