Pinyin by word

The word decides a character’s reading: 行 is háng in 银行 and xíng in 不行. Words that could go either way stay in characters, dotted; tap one to see it.

Tones as written

Tones are shown as a dictionary writes them: 你好 is nǐ hǎo, though it’s said ní hǎo. Tap a word to see how it’s said, or see every change in a text with the tone sandhi checker.

Zhuyin

Zhuyin writes each syllable in bopomofo, the way Taiwan teaches sounds: 你好 is ㄋㄧˇ ㄏㄠˇ, and a light syllable leads with its dot, ˙ㄇㄚ. The word decides the reading, as for pinyin. With no characters, pinyin is spelled in zhuyin (ni3 hao3 is ㄋㄧˇ ㄏㄠˇ) and zhuyin in pinyin.

Copying
