English (for the teacher)
On Monday morning, the teacher comes in for class. There is a big apple on her desk.
“Whose is this?” The teacher asks. Nobody says a word.
On Tuesday, there is an apple on the desk again. This time, it has one bite missing.
There is one on Wednesday too, also with one bite missing. Thursday is the same.
The whole class laughs: “Who gives the teacher a present and takes a bite first?”
Xiaojie says, “It’s Anqi, isn’t it? Apples are her favourite.”
Anqi says, “It’s not me, it’s not me!”
It’s Friday, and the holidays start tomorrow. Anqi is the first to arrive at school.
On her desk there is an apple too, and a piece of paper.
The note says: “Anqi, thank you. Every day you take one bite first, to see if it’s sweet, don’t you?”
Anqi goes red. She picks it up and looks at it.
And the apple from the teacher? It has one bite missing too.
