Days of the week in Chinese

Name: ________________ Date: ________

English (for the teacher)

Saying the days of the week in Chinese isn’t hard at all.

Add one to 星期 and you get Monday. Add two to 星期 and you get Tuesday. Three, four, five and six work the same way.

So what about “week seven”? There’s no such thing! We say 星期天 for Sunday, or 星期日.

Xiaoli really wants to learn English.

On Monday she says, “I’m too busy today. I’ll study tomorrow.”

On Tuesday she says, “I’m too tired today. I’ll study tomorrow.”

On Wednesday a friend asks her to the cinema. On Thursday it rains. On Friday she wants to sleep. On Saturday she goes out to eat with friends.

On Sunday evening her mum asks, “So what did you learn this week?”

Xiaoli smiles. “I can say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!”

“And what about English?” asks Mum.

“I’ll study it tomorrow!” says Xiaoli.
