English (for the teacher)
It’s my first time living on my own. Today I want to make tomato and egg.
I call Mum. “Mum, do the eggs go in first, or the tomatoes?”
Mum says, “Eggs first!”
Dad says from beside her, “No, tomatoes first!”
“Eggs first!” “Tomatoes first!”
They go on for ten minutes and still haven’t finished.
I say, “OK, got it.” Nobody hears me.
I cook while I listen. Soon the dish is ready, and it’s delicious.
Mum asks, “So what did you put in first?”
I say, “I put them in together.”
On the other end of the line, they both go quiet.
After a moment, Mum says, “Next time, eggs first.” Dad says, “No!”
