How to order takeaway in Chinese
Name: ________________ Date: ________

English (for the teacher)
At nine in the evening, Anna gets hungry. She doesn’t feel like cooking, so she orders takeaway on her phone: a bowl of beef noodles. The app says: “Delivered in thirty minutes.”
Twenty minutes later, someone calls her. “Hello, your takeaway’s here. I’m at the main gate. Which building are you in?”
“Building 8. Come in through the gate, go right, and it’s the second building.”
Five minutes later, he calls again. “I’m here, second building on the right. What floor are you on?”
“Sixth floor, 602.”
“But this building only has five floors.”
Anna thinks for a moment: “Which gate did you come in by?”
“The east gate.”
“Oh… I meant the south gate.”
The line goes quiet. Anna doesn’t know what to say either. All the buildings here look the same, all of them white, and sometimes even she goes the wrong way.
Just then her little dog comes to the door, barking and barking. Anna has an idea. She opens the door and tells the dog, “Go on, go down and find the beef noodles!” The dog goes straight down.
Ten minutes later, someone comes up the stairs. The rider is carrying the beef noodles, and the dog is walking in front of him, very pleased with itself.
He hands Anna the noodles and says with a grin, “Your dog gives better directions than you do.”
