In a Chinese name, the surname comes first and the given name after it.
To ask someone’s surname, you can say: “你姓什么?” (What’s your surname?) With a teacher, or with someone you don’t know, “您贵姓” (May I ask your surname?) is a little better.
When someone asks your surname, you say: “我姓吴” (My surname is Wu). Don’t say “我贵姓吴”!
