English (for the teacher)
Xiaoming is seven. His favourite word is “Thank you!”
Mum gives him a glass of milk. “Thank you, Mum!”
Dad opens the door for him. “Thank you, Dad!”
Grandma gives him a steamed bun. “Thank you, Grandma!”
Dad laughs: “Do you want to thank the table too?” Xiaoming looks at the table: “Thank you, table!” The whole family laughs.
After dinner, Grandma is looking for her book. Xiaoming finds it and brings it to her. Grandma says, “Thank you, Xiaoming!”
Xiaoming doesn’t know what to say. He looks at Grandma and says quietly, “Thank you… thank you, Grandma?”
Grandma laughs: “When someone says thank you, you can say ‘You’re welcome’. ‘No need to thank me’ or ‘It’s nothing’ are fine too.”
Xiaoming remembers it.
Before bed, he says to the table, “Thank you, table!”
Then he answers for it: “You’re welcome!”
