English (for the teacher)
Today Jack has dinner at a Chinese friend’s home for the first time.
There are lots of dishes on the table. The grown-ups all use chopsticks, so Jack uses chopsticks too.
He wants some meat. The meat drops onto the table.
He wants some egg. The egg drops onto the floor.
He wants some rice. And the rice? The rice is all over his clothes.
They all laugh. Jack laughs too: “Chopsticks are so hard!”
His friend’s daughter, Yaya, is three. She says, “Uncle, I’ll teach you!”
Yaya picks up Jack’s chopsticks: “Look, this one stays still, that one moves.”
Jack tries once, twice, three times.
He gets a piece of meat into his mouth!
They all say, “Well done!”
Yaya is delighted: “Uncle, you can use them now!”
Jack wants to say thank you. He looks at Yaya’s bowl.
In Yaya’s bowl there is a little spoon.
Yaya smiles: “I’m three. I use this.”
