English (for the teacher)
In Grandpa’s room there was a little bed. In the little bed was a tiny white kitten, drinking milk from Niuniu’s red cup.
Dad, Mum, Grandpa, and Dawei too, all said together: “Happy birthday, Niuniu!”
Niuniu looked at them: “Today is my birthday?”
Dad said, “Yes! Today, you’re eight!”
They all laughed. The little detective knew everything, but she forgot that today was her birthday.
Grandpa said, “All week, the kitten has been living in my room. It ate your dad’s dumplings, played with my glasses, and ate Mimi’s fish.”
Dawei said, “My white cat’s baby is yours now!”
Mimi walked in too, watched for a while, and lay down to sleep beside the little bed.
Dad said, “The kitten doesn’t have a name yet. Niuniu, what shall we call it?”
Niuniu opened her notebook. On the first page it said: Who ate Dad’s dumplings?
She smiled. She wrote down two characters: Jiaozi.
