English (for the teacher)
In Gao Village there lived an old man called old Mr Gao, who had three daughters; the youngest was called Gao Cuilan. Three years earlier, a young man had come here and become Cuilan's husband. He was a tremendous worker: a job in the fields that took other people many days, he finished alone in one.
But later his looks slowly changed: a long nose, big ears, and in the end a pig's face! He also ate an enormous amount: heaps and heaps of rice at every meal, and more than a hundred flatbreads for breakfast. For the last six months he had kept Cuilan locked in the back rooms and let no one see her.
Old Mr Gao said in tears: "I've hired many people to catch him, but none of them could beat him." Sun Wukong said: "Don't worry. Tonight I'll help you!"
Sun Wukong sent Cuilan back to her father, turned himself into Cuilan and sat waiting in her room. At midnight a great wind blew, and the man with the pig's face came in and tried to hug "Cuilan".
Sun Wukong said from the bed: "I'm not feeling well today. My mum and dad say you're too ugly, and they're going to get someone to catch you." He said: "I'm not afraid! I know lots of transformations, and I have a nine-toothed rake. No one can catch me." Sun Wukong said: "They say they're going to ask the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong." When he heard that, he got a little scared: "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven? They say he's really tough. I'd better go!"
Sun Wukong at once turned back into himself and shouted: "Look who I am!" He got the fright of his life, turned into a wind and fled. Sun Wukong chased him all the way to Cloud Path Cave on Fuling Mountain.
The two of them fought from night till dawn. Sun Wukong asked: "What kind of monster are you, anyway?" He said: "I used to be Marshal Tianpeng in heaven, in charge of the River of Heaven. Once at the Peach Banquet I drank too much and went after Chang'e, the Moon Goddess, and tried to flirt with her. The Jade Emperor was furious and threw me out of heaven. I took the wrong road and ended up looking like this."
He went on: "Guanyin told me to wait here for someone going to the Western Paradise. I've waited for years and he still hasn't come." Sun Wukong said: "The one going to the Western Paradise is my master!" When he heard that, he put his rake down on the ground at once and said: "Then take me to the master, quickly!"
When he met the Tang Monk, he bowed again and again and said: "Guanyin gave me the name Zhu Wuneng." The Tang Monk heard that he had already given up meat and wine, and was very pleased: "Let me give you another name: Bajie, Eight Prohibitions." From then on, everyone called him Zhu Bajie, or Pigsy.
As they left, Zhu Bajie said to old Mr Gao: "Father, please take good care of my wife. If we don't make it to the Western Paradise, I'll come back and be your son-in-law again!" Sun Wukong laughed at him: "Stop talking nonsense and come on!"
Now the Tang Monk had two disciples. But ahead lay the widest river yet. In it lived a monster with a necklace of human heads...
