A school trip story in Chinese: don't get lost, teacher!

Name: ________________ Date: ________

English (for the teacher)

On Friday, our whole class goes to the zoo. At half past seven in the morning, we all get on the coach.

Ms Wang stands at the coach door and counts heads: “One, two, three… thirty-two. Good, everyone’s here!”

Then she says, “The zoo will be very busy today. Put your yellow hats on, follow me, and don’t get lost!”

Then Ms Wang gets off to buy some water. Just then, the driver shuts the door, and the coach pulls away.

Nobody notices that the teacher isn’t on board. We’re all singing, eating snacks and looking out of the window.

At the zoo, the coach stops. We all get off, line up, and wait for the teacher to speak.

We wait a while, but nobody says anything.

The class monitor whispers, “Where’s the teacher?”

Just then, the monitor’s phone rings. It’s Ms Wang: “Where are you?”

The monitor says, “We’re at the zoo! Ms Wang, where are you?”

“I… I’m still at the school gate.”

Everyone laughs.

The monitor quickly counts: thirty-two, nobody missing. She says into the phone, “Don’t worry, Ms Wang. We’ve all got our yellow hats on, and we’re waiting for you at the gate. Don’t you get lost!”

Half an hour later, Ms Wang arrives in a taxi. She sees thirty-two yellow hats standing at the gate, and she laughs too.

That afternoon, on the way back to school, Ms Wang is the first one on the coach. And on her head, she’s wearing a yellow hat too.
