English (for the teacher)
On Monday morning my colleague Li Ming asked me, “What did you do at the weekend?”
I said, “I was so busy! On Saturday morning I went to play ball. In the afternoon a friend and I went to see a film. In the evening we went out for dinner.”
“And Sunday?”
“On Sunday I went to a bookshop and bought three books, and I studied Chinese for two hours.”
Li Ming looked at me. “Really?” I said, “Really!”
“At ten on Saturday morning I called you. You said, ‘Hello? I'm asleep…’”
“At three in the afternoon I called again. And again you said, ‘Hello? I'm asleep…’”
I went quiet.
After a while I asked him, “So what did you do at the weekend?”
He smiled. “On Saturday morning I went to play ball. In the afternoon I went to see a film. In the evening I went out for dinner. I was phoning to ask you along.”
