English (for the teacher)

In September, lots of new students arrive at university. They don't have classes yet; everyone has to do junxun, military training.

What is junxun? Students have to stand, eat and sleep the way soldiers do. University students in China all have to do junxun. At many schools, junxun lasts two or three weeks.

What do the students do all day? Here is one university's day:

Six in the morning: get up! Lots of students still want to sleep. No more sleeping!

Morning: everyone has to stand for a long time. September is still very hot, far too hot! No talking, and no looking at phones either.

Twelve o'clock: eat! Everyone eats a lot, a whole lot!

Afternoon: the soldier calls “one, two, one” (left, right, left), and lots of students march together.

Evening: they have to sing songs, too.

Ten o'clock: sleep! Lots of people don't even want to look at their phones anymore; they want to sleep that badly!

During junxun, what do students want most? Not tasty food, not their phones, but rain! When it rains, some schools stop junxun.

Two or three weeks later, everyone can get up at six in the morning! And one more thing is different: lots of them have got tanned!

What about you? At six in the morning, could you get up?
