What is China’s national animal?

China has no official one. The giant panda, 大熊猫 (dàxióngmāo), is called a 国宝 (guóbǎo), a national treasure, and the dragon, 龙 (lóng), is the old symbol of China: Chinese people sometimes call themselves 龙的传人 (lóng de chuánrén), descendants of the dragon.

What is China’s national flower?

There is no official 国花 (guóhuā). The two most often named are the peony, 牡丹 (mǔdan), and the plum blossom, 梅花 (méihuā).

What do the stars on the Chinese flag mean?

The flag is 五星红旗 (Wǔxīng Hóngqí), the Five-starred Red Flag. In the official explanation the large star stands for the Communist Party of China and the four small stars for the people united around it.

What is China’s national anthem?

义勇军进行曲 (Yìyǒngjūn Jìnxíngqǔ), the March of the Volunteers, written in 1935.
