What Chinese songs do children learn first?

两只老虎 (Two Tigers, to the tune of Frère Jacques), 小星星 (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star), 找朋友 (Finding a Friend) and the numbers rhyme 一二三四五,上山打老虎. Every Chinese child knows them, and they use the first words a learner needs.

Why only traditional songs?

A pop song’s lyrics belong to its writer, so this page has the songs that belong to everyone. For pop songs, our free extension explains every word of the lyrics on the video itself, on YouTube or Bilibili.

How do I learn a song?

Press Play on a line to hear the song spoken slowly from there to its end, say it with the voice, then sing along with a performance. Each word’s pinyin is above it, its tone marked; when sung, the melody replaces the tones.
