How to say it
j: The tongue tip rests behind the lower teeth and the front of the tongue presses the hard palate: close to the j in “jeep”, with no puff of air and no rounding of the lips.
üe: üe starts from ü (“ee” with rounded lips) and opens to the e of “yes”.
Its tones
juē 撅 to stick up · jué 绝 to cut off · juè 倔 gruff. juě isn’t used in standard Mandarin. The pinyin trainer practices telling them apart in real words.
Spelling
- After j, ü is written u without the dots: jue is jüe. j, q and x never take a plain u, so nothing is lost.
