西游记 Journey to the West
外婆的本子 Grandma's Notebook
Yuan is seventeen, grew up in Canada and speaks slow, careful Chinese. He spends the summer with his grandmother in a small river town, and she shows him her small blue notebook: forty years of words heard on her train routes, one word under a little drawing on each page. One by one, Yuan goes to find the pages: the wet market, the bun shop downstairs, a bamboo raft on the Li River, the tea hills of Hangzhou, and the young man in the last drawing.

And every morning it is Friday again. To reach Saturday, she has to work out what this Friday wants from her.
