How it works
Type the pinyin of the word in the box, then press Space or Enter. The clock starts with your first letter. Tones are up to you: nihao counts, and so does ni3hao3, but a wrong tone number doesn’t. Type v for ü: nv3 is 女.

Why type pinyin?
Pinyin is how almost everyone types Chinese on a phone or computer: you spell the sound and choose the characters. Fast, accurate pinyin is fast Chinese typing, and every word you type here is one you hear in your head.
