How do you say Merry Christmas in Chinese?
圣诞快乐 (Shèngdàn kuàilè). Christmas is 圣诞节 (Shèngdàn Jié), and for nearly any holiday you say its name with 快乐 (kuàilè, happy): 中秋节快乐, 母亲节快乐, 教师节快乐. 节日快乐 (jiérì kuàilè) is “happy holidays” for any of them.
Why do people say 端午安康 and not 端午节快乐?
The Dragon Boat Festival remembers the poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in a river, so many people prefer 端午安康 (Duānwǔ ānkāng, a peaceful and healthy Dragon Boat Festival) to “happy”. 端午节快乐 is still heard, but 安康 is the safer wish.
