1. Mandarin The Wild
We make it, so judge this one hardest. Listening practice plays ten real sentences a round from our graded stories, read by a woman’s or a man’s voice, slow or normal. Type what you heard in characters or pinyin and each word is marked, with its pinyin and the English; the words you missed can go to Review. Then:
- Dictation. The same sentences as a dictation drill.
- Shadowing. Say each sentence back and see your pitch over the narrator’s.
- The Library. Over 250 graded stories and articles from HSK 1 to 6, each with a recording in two voices, and every word explained when you point at it.
这句话我听了三遍才听懂。

4. Du Chinese

5. Coffee Break Chinese

How to choose
- Mostly understood, a little new. You learn from speech you can nearly follow. If you catch less than most of it, go down a level or slow it down.
- Check what you heard. Dictation, or reading the transcript after, shows the words your ear missed: often ones you know on paper.
- Same story twice. Listening again to something you’ve read is the fastest way to tie the sound of a word to its characters.
